A Senior Living Community, Based on Christian Values
Who We Are
Holding Ourselves to a Higher Standard
We aspire to care for everyone the same way Christ would, including our residents, their families, our staff, and our volunteers. Tabor is a vibrant community because everyone is considered: seniors can age with dignity, families can find comfort, and our staff and volunteers can make a meaningful impact in the lives of others.
Mission & Vision
Modelling the Excellence of Christ
Our Mission
Tabor Village is a vibrant community where seniors and their families experience “care from the heart” with Christ-like compassion and respect.
Our Vision
Tabor Village is at the forefront of seniors’ care and innovation, an employer of choice, a charity of choice, with an increased number of volunteers, and a renewed campus of care.
Core Values
Serving With Love and Care
Our founders were inspired by the life of Jesus, spent in service to others. The transformational character of Christ, the inspiring love of God, and the empowering energy of His Spirit continue to inspire our SERVICE to our residents.
We lead and value leadership as an act of service, empowering others to be all they can be, knowing that we have an obligation to help and serve others.
Care from the Heart involves recognizing and entering into the feelings, thoughts and experiences of others, enabling compassion and understanding.
Every person, being created in God’s likeness, has inherent value and worth as a member of the human family.
We accept that we have never fully arrived at our ideal destination, and there is always room for improvement. We are always being invited toward building a better future through innovation.
Good service flows from character and actions that are consistent with the ethical and moral principles of honesty, justice and fairness.

Throughout my life, I have often been involved with board and/or committee-type work. Tabor Board appealed to me as another place where I could use those skills in a positive way.

I have organizational skills, ability to synthesize information, problem solve, and think critically. This was valuable in my many years as a Learning Assistance Teacher.
What does ‘Caring from the heart’ mean to you?
God says: “Even to your old age I am he, and to gray hairs I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear; I will carry and will save” (Is. 46:4) Focusing on all of the world’s problems at once can be overwhelming and cause us to think we can’t make a difference, but God can place specific people into our lives as He has done in Tabor Village, and He can give us the resources to help them. Seniors are loved by God. We need to be faithful to act with care and empathy in providing for them, as God cares for them.

What does ‘Caring from the heart’ mean to you?
We often have various motivations for our actions in life. Caring from the heart merges two key reasons to reach out and serve; because I care, and because I want to serve people and God with heart, soul, mind, and strength.

It's been my pleasure to serve on the board for about 6 years.
Coming from a nursing background myself, I am eager to support professionalism and quality of care for the vulnerable people whom the Tabor Housing Society serves. To me, care from the heart means treating everyone with respect and compassion: actions that I have observed first hand in the Tabor facilities. Please join the board in praying for wisdom and direction as we navigate the challenges of changing societal values and on-going financial considerations.

The burden is heavy however our/my heart, through our faith will give us the strength and direction to endure.
Our History
Six Decades of Compassion and Care
Tabor Home Society sprang to life in the 1950s when several Mennonite Brethren Churches had a shared desire to show Christ’s love by providing care for vulnerable older adults.
After founding the Tabor Home Society in 1959, construction quickly began the following year and ground was broken for the first phase of Tabor Home on July 18th, 1960.
While initially Tabor Home could only accommodate 39 people, it quickly grew to provide an additional 118 beds as the next two phases were completed in 1963 and 1972.
In 1987, Tabor Manor for Independent Living was constructed, offering 38 apartment-style living units. Tabor Court followed in 2006, opening its doors as an assisted living facility.
Valhaven was purchased in 2017, adding another 26 beds to Tabor Home Society’s growing portfolio of services.

Working Towards the Future
For over 60 years, Tabor Home Society has provided exceptional care to thousands of senior adults.
As the need for senior care increases, we plan to offer more independent living facilities and an expanded campus of care. Our desire is to see our vibrant community grow for another 60 years.
As our oldest facility, Tabor Home can no longer provide the type of care that senior adults require. In 2019, we launched a building replacement campaign with a goal of raising 11 million dollars. Although the full amount was not raised, a portion of those funds have supported development and administrative costs related to the campaign. The remaining amount has been reserved for the building’s physical construction.
At this time, our capital campaign has been paused. Tabor Home Society is in discussion with Fraser Health to bring clarity to the next actionable steps in development.
