Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Finance Director, the GL Accountant is a 6 month contract position established to support the organization’s financial operations during the implementation and transition to a new financial system. The position is responsible for maintaining the General Ledger and subledgers, and assisting with data validation, reconciliations and process improvements related to the system migration.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Working as part of the Finance Team, the Temporary General Ledger Accountant is responsible for:
- Coordinating with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll staff to ensure timely journal posting required to achieve financial close, escalating issues or delays to the Finance Director as appropriate.
- Supporting the implementation and transition to a new financial system by validating financial data, testing system outputs and assisting with data reconciliation
- Preparing and reconciling benefit expense allocations and other recurring GL ledger reconciliations
- Monitoring Cash Balances and making recommendations on transfer of balances.
- Providing relief coverage for finance team members as required
- Assisting in the preparation of monthly financial statements.
- Monthly account reconciliations including investigating discrepancies.
- Identifying and implementing process improvement opportunities including documenting of controls.
- Assisting with audit requests and other financial analyses as required
- Other tasks and duties as required
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent and relevant education.
- At least 2 years’ experienc
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of current applicable legislation and professional standards.
- Ability to analyze, plan and manage within fiscal, physical, and human resource constraints
- Working knowledge of computerized financial and accounting systems.
- Strong skills with Microsoft Office programs with emphasis in Excel
- Ability to develop and maintain effective interpersonal and productive working relationships and to communicate in a cooperative and responsive manner.
- Thrive in a Team environment.
- Demonstrated initiative in keeping abreast of advances in accounting and information technology services through active participation in continuing education and professional self-development.
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Working Conditions
- Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, office-based
- Fast-paced work requires attention to detail while subject to frequent interruptions
