Dan Levitt, MSc, CHE

Executive Director
Tabor Village

Dan Levitt, MSc., CHE is the Executive Director, Tabor Village where he shepherds the enhancement of social, spiritual, and care needs for nearly 300 seniors. Leading a team of over 400 employees and volunteers, Dan inspires them with a commitment to continuously improving the quality of life at the campus of care. Dan is an Adjunct Professor teaching Long Term Care Administration in the Gerontology Diploma Program at Simon Fraser University.

Dan has a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Psychology, University of British Columbia; a Masters of Science (MSc), with a specialization in retirement and long-term care administration, University of North Texas; a Certificate in Fundraising, British Columbia Institute of Technology and is a Certified Health Executive with the Canadian College of Health Leaders. 

After summiting Africa's Mt. Kilimanjaro in 2011 to raise money for the Alzheimer Society of BC, he joined the Board of Directors to help better serve the needs of individuals with Alzheimer's Disease and their families. He has published articles in academic, professional and trade publications and he has presented at regional, national and international conferences.

Dan is married to Lisa and together they have two daughters Dahlia and Aria.

Francisco Alvarenga

Food Services Coordinator
Tabor Court

Executive Chef, Francisco Alvarenga, is responsible for the efficient, high quality food service provided for Tenants of Tabor Court. Francisco ensures that meals prepared meet both Tenant needs, and conform to established facility standards, policies and procedures. 

Prior to joining the Tabor Village Team, Francisco worked as an Executive Chef in the hotel industry including at the Ramada Renaissance, Montreal. Francisco has also worked for a number of faith based organizations, including Willingdon Church, Burnaby and Young Life at Rock Ridge Camp.

Francisco completed the three-year Executive Chef Program at McGill University in 1984 Montréal Quebec.

Corina Castronuovo

Director of Human Resources
Tabor Village

The Director of Human Resources ensures that Tabor Village has the strategies, practices and leadership to earn an employer of choice recognition needed to attract top talent into all positions of the seniors’ campus of care.

In fulfilling this mandate, the Director of Human Resources leads labour relations, occupational health and safety, compensation and benefits, performance management, recruitment, employee wellness, and staff education. Before joining Tabor Village, Corina’s career has focused on Human Resources and previously held management positions with increasing levels of responsibility while working at the same organization since September 2000. Her knowledge and experience combined with her personality traits, makes Corina ideal for this critical role at Tabor Village.

Along with Corina’s many valuable years of Human Resources experience, she has also completed a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Psychology from Simon Fraser University and is completing her Certified Human Resources Professional designation.

Vanessa Aparicio

Recreation Coordinator 
Tabor Home 

Leading a team of talented Recreation Aides, Vanessa plans, implements, and evaluates purposeful recreation and leisure, which improves Residents' well-being and overall quality of life. At the basis of all her Therapeutic Recreation Programming is the fundamental value of person-centered care.

Susanne Fehr

HR Support/ Admin Assistant 
Tabor Home/ Valhaven 

Susanne chairs the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee. She is also actively involved in the Accreditation Canada process as well as involved in the several committees on the Campus of Care. With Susanne’s background in customer service, the goal is to serve Residents as personal Clients and to provide Care from the Heart. Susanne has been with Tabor Home since 2007. She has Diploma in Cosmetology and also has her Building Service Worker Certificate with WHMIS training.

Presently Susanne is working on her Management Certificate at University of Fraser Valley. When not at work you will find Susanne bike riding with her husband, traveling and creating family memories with her three adult children.

Al Gerbrand

Buildings & Grounds Manager  
Tabor Village

Al oversees all maintenance for Tabor Village, with many items falling under his area of oversight, from equipment repair to making sure the lawns are cut. He ensures that all maintenance meets or exceeds established facility standards, policies, and procedures.

Before joining Tabor Village, Al spent 3 years honing his customer service skills in the Sales Department at Blackwood Home Hardware. Prior to that, Al spent 8 years at Columbia Bible College as their Director of Facilities & Grounds. Al has also spent 5 years in the mission field working as General Director of Children’s Haven International.

In 2008, Al completed all necessary courses and work experience to receive the “Facilities Management Professional” designation from IFMA. IFMA is the world’s largest and most widely recognized international association for facility management professionals.

Al is looking forward to having a long and fruitful career at Tabor Village.

Joanna Martin

Director of Resident Care  
Tabor Home

Joanna Martin, Director of Resident Care, provides clinical leadership at Tabor Home. She leads the dedicated Nursing and Interdisciplinary Team to promote best practice and evidence based care while ensuring Provincial Licensing and Fraser Health Authority standards are met.

She has a passion for elder care that maximizes independence and individualized care to our complex care residents. She has many years of experience as a Registered Nurse in both the acute and long-term care settings. She has worked as a Director of Care at various facilities in Abbotsford, Langley and Vancouver since 1998. Joanna has completed her Continuing Care Management Certificate. She has presented at the Inter RAI National Conference and the BC Patient Safety and Quality Council Annual Conference and is a member of a College RCA Program Advisory Committee. 

Upholding the missions and values of Tabor home – “caring from the heart” is important to Joanna as she works and serves the residents, families, staff, board and community partners of Tabor Village.

Gloria Moorhouse

Food Services Coordinator   
Tabor Home 

Gloria Moorhouse works collaboratively with Tabor’s Executive Chef, Francisco Alvarenga, to ensure the provision of exceptional food and service throughout Tabor Village.  Gloria’s goal is to provide home cooked, nutritious meals that both appeal to our resident population and contribute to their overall health. 

Gloria earned her Diploma in Nutrition Management from the Canadian Healthcare Association in Ontario. Her career began as a dietary aide which provided her with valuable hands on experience. Knowledge acquired working as a hospital food service supervisor, and then as a manager of a long-term care home, taught her how to successfully manage large kitchens and meet the complex dietary needs of residents.

Gloria and her husband Dennis live in Chilliwack. Together they enjoy travelling, camping, and spending time with their three daughters and two grandchildren.

Jackie Reiners, B.Ed., M.Sc.

Director of Housing   
Tabor Village

As Director of Housing for Tabor Village, Jackie Reiners oversees the Assisted Living, Independent Living, and Food Services programs across the Tabor Village organization. Jackie is responsible for ensuring that the philosophies of both assisted living and independent living are valued, promoted, and maintained in a manner that reflects the Mission, Vision, and Values of Tabor Village. Jackie is also responsible for ensuring Food Services across Tabor Village meet the varied needs of our Tenant and Resident populations. 

In the role of Director of Housing, Jackie is responsible for various aspects of administration, services coordination, employee relations, Tenant related activities, community relationships, communication, and resource management. Jackie is co-chair of the Assisted Living Network and a member of the Fraser Health Assisted Living Falls Prevention Working Group.  

Prior to accepting the role of Director of Housing at Tabor Village, Jackie worked in a variety of health care settings, including assisted living, long term care and adult day program. The focus of this work has generally been on hospitality, improvement of quality of life, and wellness for clients through the organization and facilitation of client centered leisure opportunities, reflecting Jackie’s background in Therapeutic Recreation. Prior to focusing on health care, Jackie taught English as a second language in a variety of settings, including the University of Goetingen, Germany.

 Jackie holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Victoria and a Masters of Science from the School of Public Health, Indiana University.

Ron Willms

Director of Finance & Administration  
Tabor Village

Ron Willms, CPA, CMA, is the Director of Finance & Administration at Tabor Village.  Working with a team of hardworking, dedicated, and professional staff, Ron provides strategic financial leadership to accounting services at Tabor Village including budgeting, payroll, AR/Trust, accounts payable, donations, the annual audit, and funding from Fraser Health Authority.

Ron has a Bachelor of Commerce in accounting from the University of Saskatchewan, a Master of Arts in business leadership from Trinity Western University, and a Bachelor of Christian Ministries from Bethany College.  In 2015, he completed the Certified Professional Consultant on Aging (CPCA)® Designation program.

After receiving his professional accounting designation (Chartered Professional Accountant, Certified Management Account) in 1997, Ron has focused his career in the not-for-profit sector.  Ron also serves on various volunteer committees including the board of a low-income seniors housing society, and the finance team at his church.

For more than twenty years Ron has lived in Chilliwack with his lovely wife, Beverly, together with their three children.  Ron's grandparents are enjoying life and the benefits of being residents at Tabor Village.

Board of Directors

Hildegard Bandsmer

Chairperson

Hildegard Bandsmer has been on the THS Board for more than ten years and is currently Chair. Previous governance experience includes membership and executive positions on local, provincial and bi-national Mennonite Brethren church and conference boards. Her educational foundation comes from Leadership and Theology training at Regent College and ACTS following a B.Ed. from the University of B.C. Her professional life has brought the riches of teaching both regular stream and special needs children, being Children’s Pastor at Central Heights Church (where she remains active), and partnering on the family farm. With husband Rudy, Hildegard has three children, and two grandchildren. Her passion is to bring joy to seniors through performing their old beloved hymns and songs with The Golden Strings, and to help provide a safe and happy place for the Tabor community through serving on the Board.

Jake Konrad

Vice Chairperson 

Jake Konrad, member of the Ross Road Community Church, serves on the Audit Finance and Long Range Planning Committees of THS. His committee involvements there have mainly been in building construction, renovation, maintenance and in finance. Jake graduated from UBC with a degree in Civil Engineering. After two years of working for a soils and foundations engineering consulting firm, he started his own company building homes in the City of Vancouver. Wanting to raise his family in the Fraser Valley where he and his wife Helen grew up, he moved his business and family to Abbotsford. His firm continued building homes, but quickly expanded to include land development, commercial, industrial and civil construction. Jake has served on numerous boards and volunteer organizations, including serving as president and director of the Fraser Valley Homebuilders’ Association, director of the New Home Warranty Program and director and chairperson of Tabor Home Society. Jake is married and has three grown sons and six grandchildren. As a family, they enjoy snow skiing in the winter and watersports in the summer.

Bill Dyck

Bill has a passion for the wellbeing of seniors, especially those in Tabor Village.

After pastoring for 3 years and spending 15 years as Executive Director of Youth for Christ in Alberta, Winnipeg, and Vancouver, he achieved his education in marriage and family counselling in California. In 1980 Bill and his wife Charlotte founded Pacific Family Life Counselling in Vancouver. In 2004, after Charlotte was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, Bill spent much of his time caregiving to Charlotte, until her death in April 2013.

Bill has significant experience in counselling, administration, management, public relations, and fund raising.  Bill also gained experience in business, running the organization of PFL and founding New Image College. PFL was sold in 2005. New Image, founded by Bill and Charlotte in 1981, is a very successful career college in down town Vancouver and owned and operated by their daughter. Bill is still very much involved with New Image, has a private counseling practice, acts as chairman of MMF, a Missionary Organization (also a personal passion) and is a member of the Board of Directors of Tabor Village. He brings his years of experience, education, skills, energy, and passion to focus on helping make Tabor Village an excellent place of care, and to raise the necessary resources to develop first class facilities that will match Tabor’s mission to provide “Care from the Heart."

Harry Groenwold

Treasurer

Harry Groenwold is a member at large, and serves on the Long Range Planning Committee and the Finance Committee for Tabor Home Society. In Alberta, Harry obtained his Chartered Accountants designation with an international accounting firm. He then served nine years as the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of a large wholesale and retail distribution, development and trucking company. Moving to Abbotsford he served as a partner in a local and later national accounting firm. Harry greatly enjoys working in a team environment that is committed to excellence. With that outlook, he has coached youth in baseball, football and hockey and later served on various boards. As a member of Living Hope Christian Reformed Church in Abbotsford, he has served as treasurer and several terms as deacon or elder. Now retired, Harry and Audrey enjoy golf, fishing, traveling and spending as much time as possible with their 3 children and 7 grandchildren.

Victor J. Martens

Victor J. Martens, member of the Ross Road Community Church, serves on the Governance and Quality Safety Audit committees of the board. A graduate of MBBI (now Columbia Bible College) and UBC, Vic embarked on a career of training in food processing and agriculture at the BC Institute of Technology. He took early retirement after 32 years at BCIT in teaching and administration. As a Professional Agrologist, he is a part-time consultant in food safety management systems and serves as volunteer advisor to international projects (including Russia, Ukraine, Guyana, Central America, Asia) for the Canadian Executive Services Organization. Vic served on the Columbia Bible College board for nine years in a variety of positions as well as on the Executive Board of the Canadian Conference of MB Churches for six years since his “retirement” in 2000. He is active in his local church as elder board secretary and leading small group studies as well as leading a volunteer choir from his church that regularly sings at the Tabor Home. He is married to Diane, a retired elementary school teacher, with two married sons.

Len Neufeld

Len Neufeld is the church appointee of the Clearbrook MB Church on the board, also serves on the Finance Committee and the Long Range Planning Committee for Tabor. After graduating from Chilliwack Senior High School he went directly to the wood working industry. He spent 40 years in that industry: first at a door plant as Production Foreman; then for 34 years at one of the largest kitchen cabinet manufacturers in British Columbia, serving as General Manager, Production Manager, and in various other management positions. For the past 20 years he has volunteered with a parachurch organization in leadership. He has served on a few church boards, currently on the board at Clearbrook MB Church as Assistant Moderator, as well as on other committees. Together with my wife, Joyce, we have two married children and seven grandchildren.

Joy Rees

Joy Rees is a member at large currently serving on the Public Relations and Fundraising Committee. She is a member of Promentary Community Church in Chilliwack. Joy is trained as an RN in UK and ran a Christian Conference Centre together with her Husband. She has lived in Canada since 1982 supporting her husband as a pastor and has worked as an RN and Director of care since that time. Joy served on the board of Directors of THS prior to being the first Manager of Tabor Court for 4 years. Since that time, she returned to be a member of the Board of Directors. Joy is happily married to Justyn Rees and have 3 children and 7 grandchildren.

Carol Wiebe

Secretary and Vice Chairperson

Carol Wiebe [nee Neumann], is currently the board recorder and member at large, recently retired after 40 years in Education. Her career took her into the area of Learning Assistance and the management of programs for children with special needs. Wiebe taught the Abbotsford District Class for Children with Learning Disabilities, and was active in teaching at a District Learning and Assessment Centre as well. She also served as President of the Abbotsford branch of the British Columbia Learning Assistance Teachers’ Association for some time. Having graduated from Mennonite Brethren Bible Institute [now Columbia Bible College] with a specialty in Christian Education, she then pursued a Bachelor of Education Degree at Simon Fraser University, followed by a Diploma in Special Education at the University of British Columbia. As a charter member of the Bakerview M.B. Church, Wiebe continues to be active in a number of areas. She has been involved in Pioneer Girls and Sunday School; in singing with “Dayspring” for 16 years; as secretary on the executive of the Church Council for 8 years; and she and her husband have been in Care Group Leadership for some 25 years. Together with her husband, Paul, they have 3 married daughters and two grandchildren.

Doug G.J. Wiebe

Doug was a resident of Manitoba until retirement in 2007 at which time he and Dorothy, his wife of 48 years, moved to Abbotsford to be closer to family.  They are currently members of Central Heights Church.

Doug is a retired member of the Society of Management Accountants in Manitoba holding a Certified Management Accounting degree since 1983.  Since receiving this designation, he held several accounting positons in Manitoba.  For the past 20 years before his retirement, he operated and insurance and investment sales business providing financial and retirement planning for 300-4—clients under the sponsorship of Manulife Financial.  During the last 10 years in the business, Dorothy served as his marketing assistant and business partner.

Doug was a member of the Donwood Nursing Home Board of Directors in Winnipeg, Manitoba for a period of 5 years before relocating to British Columbia.  He served as the Finance Committee Chair the last 2 years of his service there.
Doug is concerned for the compassionate care of the elderly and looks forward to serving and being a supportive member of the Tabor Home Board of Directors. 

Marilyn Hiebert

Marilyn Hiebert serves on the Governance Committee for Tabor Home Society. She is a member at Central Heights Church where she is just completing a term as Treasurer. After attending MBBI (now known as Colombia Bible College) for three terms, her working career started as a teller/posting clerk in the local Credit Union learning many positions including account manager of a small branch. Marilyn and her husband Rudy have been involved for many years caring for disabled adults by being house parents at Twin Firs (Abbotsford) and Calgary Association of the Handicapped (Calgary) for several years. She was asked to step into the role of bookkeeper at Central Heights and thoroughly enjoyed working in a ministry environment. During that time, she was mentored by a senior leader in the area of church administration and eventually used that to serve Bakerview MB Church as their Administrator. In 2001 Marilyn was invited to apply for the position of Director of Administration for BC MB Conference and gladly stepped into that new role. During the 13 years at BCMB she connected and resourced many of the churches in BC. During this time, she also served on the Board of Columbia Bible College, the CCMBC Board of Management as well as the CCMBC Executive Board. Recently she was invited back to join the CCMBC Board as secretary. She has come to enjoy reviewing governance issues and takes every opportunity to learn more on this topic. Marilyn is married to Rudy, a retired BC Corrections officer and they have three children and four grandchildren.
